Frequently Asked Questions

We primarily offer 5” or 6” K-Style seamless gutters on most residential homes. We also offer several other gutter profiles including half round and box. We can fabricate any custom profile and any size to accomoade various roof types and commercial projects when needed.
5” gutters will hold up to 1.2 gallons/foot of rainwater. 6” gutters will hold up to 2.0 gallons/foot of rainwater. 5” gutters will handle over 90% of residential homes. As gutter size increases so does the stress placed on the fascia boards and rafter tails along with the area for debris to collect. We only recommend a gutter size if the space between the outer edge of the gutter and the shingles is at least 3”. Some customers prefer the larger gutter’s appearance.
As a rule of thumb, we try to drop a properly sized downspout every 20-30’. Various circumstances such as yard slope, air conditioners, windows, roof pitch, aesthetics, etc. can change our downspout recommendations. The goal is to have enough downspouts to offload water during heavy storms water and divert the water away from the structure.
2”x3” downspouts can drain up to approximately 600 sq. ft. rainwater each. 3”x4” downspouts can drain up to 1,200 sq. ft. of rainwater each. 3”x4” downspouts are substitutable on 5” or 6” gutters. If you choose 6” gutters we will install 3”x4” downspouts.
If you have tree(s) at or above the roof level within 50 feet we recommend gutter guard at least for the areas likely to be affected by the tree(s). Gutter guards are also effective in keeping birds, rodents, and other debris out of your gutters so they are rarely a bad idea.
There are many gutter guard options. We offer 6 categories with options within those categories: 1) Aluminum Expanded Wire – most cost-effective and most porous 2) Powder Coated Expanded Wire—rust resistant expande wire 3) Perforated Gutter Guard—less porous & rust resistant 4) Stainless Steel Metal Mesh—for fine debris like pine needles 5) Louvered—least porous besides Solid 6) Solid—keeps debris out, but water can potentially run over the gutters in heavy storms. ° We typically suggest Powder Coated Expanded Wire, Perforated, or Stainless Steel Mesh due to rusting and overflow issues with the other options. ° Please see the "Gutters" page for more information under the "Gutter Guard" section
We highly suggest splash blocks as an important way to divert the water away from your foundation at its exit point. We offer concrete splash blocks at $15 each. There are various options available for you to shop elsewhere.
